There’s a Fire!!

“There’s a fire! and Diesel 10 is horrible!”

A review of Day of the Diesels, the new Thomas & Friends film by my 3 year old son, he can’t say much more, he’s mesmerized by it!

Poor Percy gets very upset when Thomas makes friends with Belle the fire engine train, he gets drawn into Diesel 10’s plans to take over the steamworks.

My boy has always loved Thomas and his friends, he has engines and bags and books but never really wanted to watch the programs, no idea why. So when HIT entertainment asked me to review this new Thomas film I did wonder if he would watch it. When the package arrived I told him, “This is a DVD for you Little Man!” and he was so proud he had been sent his own film like his big sister has in the past, we had to put it on straight away! We are now on our 6th or 7th viewing (I’ve lost count).

The narration seems slower to me then the tv programs, in fact, all the speech seems drawn out, it doesn’t seem to bother my son though.  The animation makes it a lot easier to watch then the older model railway version, although for me as an adult viewer it has lost some of the old world charm.

Thomas and Friends – Day of the Diesels is available on DVD or Blue Ray from Monday 26th September. That’s TOMORROW!! So all your little Thomas fans won’t have to wait long to see this new adventure.

Maths Adventure To The Moon!

Or how Leapfrog saved Easter…..

Imagine us, stuck in a car on Good Friday fighting with the traffic to get past Exeter.  Our small people are used to journeys of an hour or so and were being happily entertained by the DVD screen (honestly, gold star to the inventor of that gem!) and then the film finished… Argument ensues… “I want Tinkerbelle!” “I want Cars!” people with children of the same sex really don’t know they are born…. (I’m kidding, do any of then ever agree?)  I flick through the DVD case calling out the ones they choose to pack to no avail… until I said “What about Frogs?” “FROGS!” came the chorus of delight from the back seat and you know what, they watched it several times, singing along having a lovely time….

Let me tell you about Frogs….

This is Tad and Lily, they have been given a maths project to complete for school and grab a few friends along the way to help them out… It’s all about making a collection and counting what they find.  The story is a bit of a fun finding frolic into space with a few funky tunes which even I found myself singing along to in the car much to Daddies annoyance and the the smalls tunelessly shouting out the words and joining in too… well, tough ain’t it.  They count and sort shapes and patterns in a really fun and easy to understand way and my smalls adore it….

Yesterday the Little Lady was crooning out one of the songs and counting up in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s like Tad and Lilly do without any prompting, so I consider that a successful outcome.

This is a brand new DVD story, released on the 9th May 2011 and is brilliant for preschoolers, I must admit to be on the lookout for the ‘lets go to school’ DVD already out on release.

“Can I Watch My DVD?”

So, the invasion of the mouseling continues…

Angelina Ballerina is still the favourite new toy, she is subjected to all manner of activities on a daily basis (and is whipped away when ever possible by the Little Man) and made to sit through her very own new DVD “Pop Star Girls” as often as the Little Lady is allowed to play it.. So some part of most days…

Now, I have only seen bits of the DVD, flitting in and out of the room as us Mothers do but I have seen the transfixed look of worship on my daughters face and yes, I can hear the wailing (sorry) singing along with the soundtrack clearly enough, I’m happy enough with the content as we have had to watch Angelina on the TV on and off for the last year or so; the determination to succeed and learning about responsibilities story lines can only have a positive effect can’t they, (although there is way too much pink involved for my liking!)  I can honestly tell you that she is loving it, and that is the important thing, right?

We also seem to be spending a lot of time stiffing giggles whilst having to watch a “performance” of rather sweet ballet ‘interpretation’ including much waving of the arms and flicking of the head to peek at how well she’s being received.  In fact, I asked the little lady if she would like ballet lessons, she said “why?” and looked put out, I said “So you can learn how to do ballet” and she replied with relief “I already can do ballet” followed by more arm swinging and pirouetting.

I’d be daft not to conclude that Angelina is a huge hit with both of my children as the little man is right behind his sisters wishes to watch the DVD, he even requested watching “Angemouserina” whilst she was away at nursery this week and his 3yo interpretation of her dancing is beyond hilarious! He tells me “Pink is my fay-it” (favourite for those who don’t speak little boy) which I calmly refuse to worry about after my sisters experiences with my nephew and the “pink spiderman costume” saga….

A New Friend – Angelina

We have new member of the family. Last Wednesday, a guest arrived at our house sporting a pink tutu, a small bag and several classy accessories and wormed her way into my daughters affections. I say wormed but actually to be honest the word I should use is Moused.

Enter Angelina Mousling, the want to be ballerina and star aka the Angelina Ballerina Dance and Sing Doll, which is part of the new range of Angelina toys by Mattel.

This is her face when Angelina arrived

Love at first sight…

….And since last Wednesday my world has been dominated by mousey pinkness pirouetting around the house with the little lady singing along with the catchy tune “I’m a real star” and even the piece of classical music she plays to leap to.

She has been everywhere with us, dancing her way through her days… The Little Lady worked out exactly how to get the music and dancing going within seconds of the packet being open in the way that children do, squeezing the dolls middle so her arms and legs move into pirouettes and leaps and the music plays; and yes Mums, there is an off button (phew) if you can get away with using it…

and as soon as she put Angelina down for two seconds? The little man swept her up and danced her around the room for over an hour! I couldn’t help thinking that this reaction to a toy is exactly what parents look for from birthdays and Christmases…

Yes, I’m afraid Angelina Mousling is here to stay, if not take over…..

How Good is the Shirt on Your Back?

Getting asked to do reviews doesn’t happen to me very often, in fact it’s fair to say it never has happened before and although I read my fellow Mummy Bloggers reviews for huge toys and exciting trips to posh shops with interest I have always been of the mind that my blog is what I want it to be and it makes me happy, if that means I don’t get loads of traffic and fancy offers, well hey that’s just fine.

So I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from a T’shirt Printing company asking me to take a look at one of their printed shirts. Well, I don’t as a rule wear T’shirts but Daddy does so we asked for a XL and I was amazed when it arrived so quickly!

Now, this is where I have to ‘fess up a bit…  In my previous pre-mummy life I was a sales manager for one of the UK’s largest uniform companies, you know the high street shop & mail order company; supplying everything from designer office wear to nursing and catering uniforms.   I started work with them in their leisure wear department supplying logo’d t’shirts, polo shirts and similar to small business and clubs, mostly embroidered emblems but a fair amount of screen printing.  So this is not unfamiliar territory for me.

So here is the science bit as they say…

The T’shirt I have been sent is of good quality and a brand I recognise, the screenprinted logo is perfectly set centrally with no flaws. This is good.

I’ve had a surf at www.tshirtprinting.net their cheerfully coloured and seemingly easy to use website and if/when I have an occasion to need 12+ garments for a team, or a hen night or similar this friendly company are going to be my first port of call.

So, give ’em a go too… let me know if you do!
